Why does mold grow in a crawlspace?

A crawlspace is notorious for getting damp and growing mold.

Water from rain or a leaking pipe will collect and pool in the crawlspace. Because it is enclosed it will evaporate very slowly and the moisture will have no place to go. Soon the studs and floor joists will begin to saturate and grow mold.

The best way to avoid mold in a crawlspace is to call SERVPRO of Ozone Park / Jamaica bay as soon as water is in the crawlspace. Removing the moisture before mold grows is the best way. However, we have been trained and certified to remove mold from homes if it does end up growing.
